I can't believe it! It took me this long to discover this beautiful cafe located on Magill Road. Well it has been opened for 8 weeks. It is easy to miss and in a location where you wouldn't expect. It is located in Kent town and associated with the traditional brick oven shop where they sell and build pizza ovens.
Rustic interior, a lot of tables and chairs even a kids playing corner - yes kid friendly. There are also a couple of tables and chairs for those who want a bit of sunshine. If you are interested in wood ovens, there are also plenty for sale too. I couldn't wait to try out their items on the menu. As soon as I hear wood oven, my eyes light up. I love food that is cooked in the wood oven.
I surely wasn't disappointed with the items on the menu.... my favourites. There were a lot to choose from, where to start? I made several trips back because I wanted to eat EVERYTHING on the menu.
The classic salmon bagel was a must order. The bagel was crunchy and salmon was just so fresh. Everything on the chopping board was just faultless.
My favourite - eggs florentine, a lot of cafes would overload on the hollandaise sauce and would use english muffins. At WB, a bagel was used and the hollandaise sauce was light. The eggs were poached to perfection. Amazing!!!!
This was no simple bacon and egg roll, some places would make this and when you pick up the roll/ bagel with both hands, oil would be dripping everywhere. Certainly not this one, bacon was crunchy - American style. It was delicious!
The least favourite dish for the day was the buttermilk pancake. Don't get me wrong, the presentation of this was awesome, all the ingredients were fresh. The pancake could have been cooked for that extra bit longer. It was slightly mushy for my liking.
This was big breakfast great. Eggs cooked to my liking. Yummy bacon, chorizo, mushrooms and tomatoes have been seasoned well. Bonus - wood oven flat bread!!! Another tick in the books.
Of course when I think of wood oven, pizza is an item not to miss. Imagine crunchy thin base with light toppings coming straight out of a wood oven at a very high temperature. The texture, the taste, completely different to the pizzas that come out from a conventional oven. Pulled pork with chilli gave it the extra kick. Every ingredient married so well on this pizza. One of the very best wood oven pizza we have even had. I couldn't stop at one, or two.
I love this hidden gem on Magill Road. It has made it close to top on my favourite places to go. The staff were very friendly, the food was great, the prices were absolutely reasonable. They are open quite early (of course, to start up the wood oven). Good thing is that breakfast is served all day. I cannot wait to go back!! Friday night are sometimes their all you can eat pizza nights. Check their FB page!
