One night we were strolling down Churchill Road in Prospect and entered into a Thai Restaurant called Rose Garden. A narrow front entrance led us into a bigger area. There is nothing special about the decor, we were there for the food. There was certainly a decent range of Thai food on the menu and the prices are acceptable.
The spring rolls were fried till golden brown, crunchy on the outside as well as tasty fillings inside. We also ordered a couple of soups for entrees. One was fish, not just normal fish fillets, these were snapper fillets. I gave credit to that as there are not many Thai restaurants that would use a dearer priced fish fillets with their soup. The broth was full of spices, it was rich with coconut cream. In fact, it was almost too rich to have as an entree.
We ordered a few of the chef specials. We have had all three at another Thai restaurant before so we knew what to expect. I was a little disappointed with the duck curry. The flavours were there, but the curry was a little watery for my liking. There were definitely not many pieces of duck, the ones that were in the curry was slightly over cooked.
Hor Mok Talay was a seafood dish wrapped in foil and served on a flaming plate. The seafood and all the flavours were captured inside the foil. It was not bad.
Kai Hor Buy Toey was pieces of marinated chicken and wrapped around in herb leaves. Served with sweet chilli sauce on the side.
All the dishes were slightly too sweet and rich for my liking. As far as the menu goes, there is certainly a lot to choose from, and everything seemed to be reasonably priced.
