I get excited when there is a new restaurant that opens up, Pho Magill is no exception. I wouldn't say Vietnamese is my favourite cuisine, but it certainly is something that I eat a lot of. The name itself suggests Vietnamese and is located on Magill Road, on a strip of my favourite eateries there. This is another addition to the family of restaurants located on Magill Road. There is not much parking on the main road, however plenty at the back.
Their menu consists on simple entrees, bread rolls, salads, rice noodles, rice dishes and last but not least pho noodles. I guess I had to try the pho this time, I opted for the medium size beef pho. I was interested in trying the broth. The beef that was floating in the soup was a little fatty and ingredients were just subpar. There were only two tiny slices of chilli. I was a little disappointed with the broth as it just did not compare to other Vietnamese restaurants that I have tried. After eating the bowl of pho, I was just left with a thirsty after taste.
Another dish that I tried was the pork chop with rice. The salad gave it the extra vibrant colour on the side. The pork chop was well marinated, but it didn't meet my expectation. Even tho the meat was tender, the presentation of the pork just didn't look great. Perhaps would have been a little better if they pan fried it just a little. I did still finish my plate off, it was yum.
There are other selections on the menu that I would still like to try. The prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is quiet but given that they are new to the block, and there are not many Vietnamese restaurants in this side of town. This is a welcome addition. I will watch this restaurant with keen interest.
