Coal Cellar + Grill

What used to be called The Brasserie has transformed into a classy looking bar/ restaurant called Coal Cellar + Grill.  It has had a complete make over with what I say different style of cooking.  The name of this restaurant suggests there are a lot of items that would come from the Grill and therefore definitely a lot of meat on the menu.  If you like your protein and fine dining, this restaurant would be the ideal place.

The decor had an elegant touch, with a lot of dimmed lights and candles.  I loved sitting at the booths.  Yes it is a fine dining restaurant, but we noticed there were a few groups of diners.  Some were elegantly dressed, some were business people and of course some guests were from hotel where they casually walked in.  I loved the idea of the function rooms on the side.  

Scallops were baked to perfection and oh the melted cauliflower cream .... absolutely devine!!

The oysters were served natural, they were fresh and juicy.  The Nam Jim dressing reminded me of the dressing that is usually served in a Thai beef salad.  A zesty sauce... hot, sour and tangy.  Just a little bit on the oysters gave them that extra sting.

The beef was no ordinary beef, a wagyu beef with a marble score 9.  If you are a meat connoisseur I am sure you will appreciate it.  The best piece of steak I have had in a very long time.  It is a rare piece of steak and is usually served in smaller portions.  It is absolutely perfect for the special occasion.  Mushroom sauce and the multi grains complimented the beef miraculously.  I could not fault this dish at all.

If you are a big salad fan, then I suggest ordering heirloom tomatoes.  They were fresh, sweet, and all the elements worked so well together.  Red, orange, yellow tomatoes and beetroots, I am sure you won't find this in your everyday supermarket.

If you want more, then why not order a platter to share between two people, or three?  Pork done four ways!  Juicy ribs, pork belly, pork sausages and pork chop.  Get some pork on your fork. 

The food standard at Coal Cellar + Grill was pretty high, and the food really highlighted the best of South Australia.  Even though the food was on the pricier side, but we certainly got what we paid for.  The staff were friendly and attentive.  The waiter whom served us certainly had a good knowledge of the menu as we questioned him about a few items.  The wine display was truly amazing too.  We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and would most definitely return.
