Magill Estate Kitchen is a newly established eatery right next to the cellar door of the beautiful Magill Estate. It is a sisterly offering to the restaurant and offers a more casual dining atmosphere compared to the fine dining restaurant next door. Driving up the road you will notice vines on both sides and the kitchen is located on your left. Not many people know about this kitchen, and yes it is opened for breakfast. If you have a group of 8 or more then it is definitely good to make a booking.
As we entered into the building, the amazing cellar door with numerous bottle of Penfolds wines were on the shelves. There were a few tasting rooms off to the side, and there was a paid option for a tour around the winery. The design and the furniture was absolutely mind blowing. It felt like we entered into a five star hotel. Towards the back was the kitchen. The use of modern furniture and lights contributed to the contemporary feel to the whole room. I loved the wooden table in the middle of the restaurant and we were lucky enough to sit at that table. It was comfortable and super roomy.
There were 7 items on the breakfast menu with the option to add extra sides. It was simple but it was everything that you need for a scrumptious breakfast. It ranged from your normal continental big breakfast to more fancy ones showcasing local produce from South Australia. The waitress took our orders at the table, and memorised it. At first she had to come back and check with us again. Then she had to serve another table straight away. We were worried that she would have forgotten our orders. Boy, she had a good memory, as she got all of our orders correctly. Croque Madame had two pieces of bread with a soft crust and topped with grated cheese and a fried egg. It was definitely very rich, but it was delicious.
One of us had fried free range eggs with extra bacon and chorizo served with sour dough. Although it may look like a simple bacon and eggs sort of breakfast, but the way that the bacon was cooked, it was crispy and cooked with some honey as it was sweet. It was amazing.
Eggs were poached beautifully, the yolks were runny and the avocado couldn't get any fresher than this.
The highlight was the trout which was smoked and served with cucumber, curd and rye toast. Each slice of the trout was fresh, cucumbers were crunchy and the little capers on the side added the extra finish to the palate.
All dishes were executed nicely, and the staff were friendly. With the quality of food, friendly service, breathtaking views of the vines and the Adelaide City. Why not come and enjoy some breakfast or have some nibbles with a group of friends or enjoy a glass of the Grange? I highly recommend it.
