A Hereford Beefstouw

A Hereford Beefstouw is located on Hutt Street amongst other well known restaurants.  It originated from Denmark in the 1970s.  The restaurant offers alfresco and also inside dining.  The theme of  Scandinavian design was carried throughout the restaurant.  There was modern art and the simple use of wooden furniture.  


There is an all you can eat salad bar, the best self serve salad bar that I have ever seen in Adelaide.  For $8.90 together with your main course, you can just fill yourself up with salad all night.  If you prefer just eating salad you just have to pay $20 and it's all you can eat.   For me I do like my steak, so I saved some room for some protein.  The wine list was also extensive.  It had a lot of my favourite bottles from South Australia.  

One person in our group had the yellow fin tuna which was slightly grilled on both sides.  The tuna steak was flaky but the centre remained pink.  It was perfect.  

All steak is cooked to your liking.  There is a card for everyone and all you have to do is choose your entree, main course and how you like it done.  Last but not least which kind of butter you would like for your steak.  Hereford Beefstouw is a traditional steakhouse.  There are three types of butter on offer to go with the steak rather than the heavy sauces which I am not a big fan of.  I like to enjoy the natural taste of the steak. 

All the beef at Hereford Beefstouw are grass fed, and they are said to be less fatty and higher in omega-3 than the grain fed ones.  This rump steak was to be cooked to medium rare, however it was just medium to me.  The fries were a little soggy too.  The lobster tail which we added as an extra was absolutely amazing.  It was sweet and had the full flavours. 

Beef short ribs were marinated, meat was tender that they fell off the bone. 

The highlight of the night was the ribeye fillet on the bone.  It was a dish to share between two people.  We waited for the waitress to wheel the chopping board towards us, as she staged her station.  We watched her carve our steak to serve to us.  Each cut was sliced carefully and we opted for the extra lobster tail too.   

The steak was cooked to perfection. It was very juicy and not fatty at all.  

All meals were well executed.  The food did take a long time before it arrived at our table.  The salad bar was an eye opener and all the staff were very enthusiastic.  It is on the costly side, but for the quality of food offered, I think it's worth it.
