Seppeltsfield winery has undergone major renovations, it looks bigger and better. We couldn't resist but to visit FINO restaurant next to the newly renovated cellar door. It looked absolutely amazing! It is a restaurant that consists of an open kitchen and a bar with a fire place. The chefs at FINO restaurant strongly focus on fresh and local produce in the Barossa Valley. The menu was simple with 5 to 6 choices of appetiser, entree, main course and dessert.
For entree I had the mussels from Kinkawooka, it was served in a broth with saffron and rouille. The mussels were sweet and tasted very fresh. The bread was charred but it was put inside the bowl with the mussels. By the time it arrived at our table, the bread was soggy. I would have liked it on the side.
The highlight of the night was the fish - mulloway. Not only was it presented nicely, but the flavours were all there on that plate. It was amazing! The fish was moist and served on a bed of celeriac puree. I have to mention the soft egg, omg the egg was so soft like you wouldn't believe it.
I had pictured the beef short rib on a plate and chargrilled or something like that, because that is the way I know to cook beef ribs. These ones were served in a meaty broth and topped baby young leeks. Together with an overlooked vegetable, kohlrabi. A perfection combination I say.
I don't think I could fault anything tonight, if I had to pick something it would have to be the table that we were on, it kept rocking. I believe the floor surface was a bit uneven and they had already put some cork underneath the table legs to fix the problem. It wasn't just our table, other were too. That didn't put us off from the amazing food that was served tonight.
It is an award winning restaurant and it has been on SA Life before, therefore it is quite popular. On top of that, weddings and other functions are held at the winery. I would strongly recommend booking to avoid any disappointment.
