Woodstock Winery is on Douglas Road in McLaren Flat. After some bendy roads, we have arrived at the winery. The winery offers a cellar door and a restaurant named 'Coterie'. In fact Coterie is the first restaurant built in the wine region of the beautiful McLaren Vale. The restaurant has sustained its old character, with big old gum trees surrounding the restaurant. The restaurant has remained a semicircle shape. Being a cold rainy day, the fire place in the middle of the restaurant kept us all warm.
The autumn menu offers some delicious choices, ranging from regional platters to scrumptious steaks. We opted for a dearer cut - the 650g SA grass fed beef rib eye. It was definitely a sharing dish.
The moment the plate arrived at our table, my jaw just literally dropped. Not only did it look amazing, but the aroma of the dish was just salivating. The rib eye was rested on a bed of crunchy potatoes, and the presentation was immaculate. I do love my rib eye cut. There are ribbons of flavour/marbling that run through the meat. It was moist, and the juice was maintained inside the steak. We asked for the steak to be medium and it was cooked to the way we liked. Look at the thickness, mild and deep flavours. We couldn't fault this dish at all. Now where can you get a steak like this in Adelaide?
I wished we had room to try the other items on the menu, but my stomach was filled to the top. We can't wait to come back for the Friday night Woodoven pizza night.
