Sean's kitchen is one of the most talked about restaurants in Adelaide. It is located right below the Adelaide Sky City Casino. Without a booking, it is so difficult to get a seat. There is also a function room upstairs. Now I would advise booking well in advance to avoid disappointment. I have been there for breakfast quite a few times, and this time it was for dinner. We sat outside, on the night of a Port Power versus Hawks football game. You can imagine all the noise people made walking past. This however did not bother us. In fact there was a DJ playing music in the background and that sort of drowned out the noise. It wasn't cold sitting outside either as the heaters were on.
We ordered some bread to begin with, however I was a little disappointed as it was stale. They just seemed to have been left out for quite sometime. I remembered coming here for breakfast and the bread had been crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I almost broke my teeth trying to bite into the piece of bread.
I have seen the lobster roll on Sean Connolly's channel 7 TV show. Finally I was able to try it. It was light, the roll was soft and inside was lobster mixed with lemon and Crème fraîche. The colours were vibrant and it was a delight to eat.
Next was the grilled octopus salad. I have not had an octopus salad with this much octopus in it. Every spoon full I took, there was octopus. It was tender and sweet. I loved the mix of chickpeas and rocket. I just wasn't sure about the persian feta.
I think I have found the best sashimi in Adelaide. It is definitely here in Sean's Kitchen. The tuna, ocean trout and kingfish were just so fresh. The slices were chunky and the meat just melted in my mouth in every bite. It was absolutely amazing, I couldn't put my chopsticks down. It was that good!
Barramundi was another highlight for the night. Barramundi was steamed, therefore no crispy skin this time. That didn't matter as it was put in the middle of an organic soy broth, together with turnips and lettuce. The barramundi fillet was cooked to perfection, and matched so well with the broth. I loved it. The aroma of this dish was magical.
Last but not least, I had to order this dessert. It was the doughnut with ice-cream and lemon meringue. The doughnut was completely different to any other doughnut that I have tried. This one was so moist and together with the soft meringue, and ice cream, it was the perfect combination.
Despite the little hiccup with the bread at the beginning, overall I had a wonderful experience and needless to say I will be back. I love the creativity by Chef Sean Connolly!
