Rigoni's Bistro

Rigoni's Bistro is located on Leigh Street in the Adelaide CBD.  It has been around for decades.  It is known to serve local produce wherever possible.  It serves classic as well as modern Italian dishes.

On arrival we were welcomed by some extremely friendly staff.  The service was attentive all night.  It wasn't long before the whole restaurant was packed with customers.  I saw that a lot of them were returning customers, which is always a good sign.

The menu was classic and simple.  The wine list had some local and imported wines.

The bread was served warm, with green olive gremolata on the side.

I do love my proscuitto and bread.  This bread is no ordinary bread, it was crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside.  It was served with caramelised onion jam and rocket, prosciutto and finished off with shredded goats cheddar cheese.  It was delicious!!

Spaghetti with seafood was on the pasta menu, yay!  I don't think I have had a plate of pasta that big ever in Adelaide.  It was cooked al dente and consisted of half a blue swimmer crab, mussels, prawns, fish, calamari in a rich tomato based sauce.  For those of you who don't want to get your fingers dirty, you can have the spanner crab picked for you.  There is that option. I like to get dirty so I chose to have the crab served on the plate.  I highly recommend this pasta dish if you are a big fan of seafood marinara.

For those of you who are adventurous, the squid ink linguine is also an option.  The octopus was well done.  I just wanted to eat one after the other.   I loved the way the chef married the two types of linguine together, so you can actually tell that squid ink had been added and you can compare.  A little bit of chilli, garlic, capper berries and parsley were mixed in with the pasta.  It was a great plate for tempting your palates.

The food was of a very high standard, and we left as happy customers.  I recommend this restaurant if you want a night of authentic Italian food, friendly staff, in a fine dining atmosphere.
