Mercato has always been one of my favourite places to go for my Italian grocery shopping. When I found out that they were doing an extension to this place into a cafe I was pretty excited. I think it is a brilliant idea. There is an open area and you can sit inside the supermarket. After you finish shopping, you can just walk across for a coffee and enjoy some of the nice Italian food that they have to offer.
Bar Mercato is opened for breakfast and lunch. Weekends maybe a little more busy than weekdays. Bar Mercato offers a range of Italian pastries, pizzas and paninis.
The scrambled eggs were fluffy, and rich. I much prefer my scrambled eggs without butter, but I can imagine old school scrambled eggs are like this. The extra zucchini and capsicum, rocket with sourdough toast completed the dish.
I loved the eggs in Napoletana sauce, not many places fried the two eggs first before putting in a baking bowl. This created the crunchy base for the eggs which I quite liked, the broccolini cheese melted on the sauce, with pancetta on top. The sauce is exceptional. It was a delightful way to egg 'baked eggs'.
The price was very reasonable, with waitress coming frequently to check if our food and drinks were ok. The service was very attentive and the food had been carefully selected and put on the menu for ones to enjoy an Italian experience. I will definitely come back to Bar Mercato to sample more of their menu.
