After visiting many Coonawarra vineyards, we decided to stop by Hollicks wines. There are a lot of good reviews about the AGFG award winning restaurant so we decided to give it a go. The ambience and the setting was awesome. We had a table near the window and enjoyed a lovely view of the vineyards.
I must say we were quite lucky. The service was friendly and attentive. Each individual dish could be matched with their wines, but we gave that a miss just because we had been to a few other wineries beforehand. We opted for the half glass option. Their half glasses were actually very large.
For entree, I had a serving of the scallops which were seared beautifully, submerged with the sage butter and crispy proscuitto. The scallops had the 'melt in my mouth' feeling, they were sublime!
For main I had the quail, which the presentation looked absolutely sensational. I thought the quail could have done with slightly more seasoning. The meat was very tender, and giant couscous with the sauce married very well together. I also loved the use of kale, not just ordinary kale but crispy kale.
I have had many types of ravioli, but never like this. They were reddish pink, and that was because it was the beetroot. These ravioli was soaked in sage butter, it was rather interesting. Slightly too cheesy for me.
I do love my fish, and this barramundi fillet was cooked to perfection. It was pan fried, hence the crispy skin on one side. The meat was tender, one cut with a knife into the fillet, it just slipped off the knife and onto the bed of herbed risotto. It was astounding. The fish was my favourite.
I was impressed with the quality and the presentation of all the food. The food did take a long time to arrive, especially in between courses. There were not a lot of people when we were dining there. We waited almost an hour between the entree and main course. Otherwise it would have been five daisies.
