Panacea - Festival of Food Adelaide 2014

I wanted to make a booking for 7:30pm on a week night but was informed that the booking could only be at 7:00pm.  This was due to patrons arriving at 7:30pm and it was easier for them to sit people in early, so we were informed that we could come at 7:00pm to sit and wait for other guests to arrive.  I thought that was rather odd.  Oh well that gave us more time to look at the menu and decide what to have.  

The restaurant looked exactly the same as last year's, menu had not changed either.  However the prices of wine had been marked up incredibly.  Even the sides were dearer than last year's.  Service throughout the night was not at all attentive.  The food took a long time to arrive at our table.  We had to hail to the waitress in order to get served.  We didn't think that was good enough. 

The entree platter was a big disappointment, the presentation was not at all there.  It looked portions of food were put on the plate randomly.

The duck looked exactly the same as last year's.  It was delicious except the skin on the duck had been half peeled off.  I wasn't sure of the panna cotta on the side, it had a strange texture and after taste.

Fabada was empty.  There was clearly not enough seafood in the bowl and the broth was just so watery.  We were very disappointed with this dish.

One of us had asked for the steak to be well done, however when it arrived we still saw red.  It had to be redone and therefore the long waiting time.  It was one dish that could be made at home quite easily.

I wasn't sure what to think of the gnocchi, it was served in a clay pot.  The ingredients were similar to the ones that were in the duck confit.   Apparently it was ok only. 

Broccolini in chilli butter was substandard, the bottom ones were a little yellow.  Perhaps a little over done. 

We didn't want to wait any longer, therefore we just had the petit fours which came with the voucher.  It was supposed to be mini churros coated with cinnamon and sugar.  We didn't see mini at all, they were big chunky churros.  Although they didn't look good, they were cooked all the way through.

It  turned out to be a long dinner due to all the waiting time in between dishes.  The restaurant was rather smokey inside.  We didn't think the exhaust fans were working that well.  I remembered coming out of Panacea smelling of food.  

I must say there are some restaurants that are always consistent in maintaining the highest quality of food as possible.  Unfortunately I didn't think Panacea was one of them.  

I am looking forward to dining at other restaurants once again on the Festival of Food voucher.
