Although it was a rainy day, it didn't stop us from driving up the hills to the beautiful McLaren Vale. It is one of my favourite places, full of vineyards, and wineries. The restaurants have food of high quality. Chef Nigel has worked at famous restaurants both overseas and in SA. He is now at The Elbow Room. We arrived there close to 2pm and the service was very attentive.
Fresh local produce!
The menu changes as Elbow Room uses local and seasonal ingredients. We started off with half a dozen of the natural oysters. They were very fresh. It was an excellent way to open up our appetites. Following was beautifully cooked Angus beef. The handcut fries on the side were crunchy and super tasty.
The highlight was the pork belly. The skin was crispy, and every time I took a bite, the skin in my mouth made a crackling noise. The meat was succulent, served by an Asian grapefruit dressing. I was very satisfied.
The Elbow Room restaurant is one that is easily spotted when turning into McLaren Vale, I was very impressed with the food there and will definitely be returning.
The best way to see the Mclaren Vale is to stay a night or two. There are plenty of beautiful wineries, bnb accommodations. I have been to quite a few of the wineries so there will definitely be more posts to come soon. Stay tuned!!!
