Uncle Albert's Cafe

Now why is this cafe always busy?  I am not sure, so I decided to go and find out.  It is situated inside the Norwood mall, surrounded by shops, bakery, supermarkets, book shops.  The outdoor seating was full, so that must be a good sign, with a few empty tables and seats inside, we decided to sit down.  A quick glance of the menu and I knew what I wanted straight away, something quick and simple, and something that you can easily make at home so you can't go wrong with that.  There was no one to serve us.  You just go up to the counter and order.

It didn't take long before we received our coffees.  Yes I must say that coffee was good and the milk wasn't burnt.  For me presentation also plays a big part with my meal, there was clearly still tea/coffee on the spoon that was provided with the coffee.  I so wished that was wiped off before it was brought to our table.

I ordered a doorstop, it came out out a chopping board.  Pretty nicely presented I say, I always like a piece of thick toast.  However, when serving at a cafe or a restaurant, I believe the ends of the breads should not be served and that's what I got.  I am a big fan of avocado, nothing needs to be done, just fresh avocados on a fresh toast is one of the best breakfast that I love.  On the menu, it did read smashed avocado, however this wasn't and the avocado itself was overly ripened, therefore there were some black bits in it, the top of the avocado was not sliced off properly and the head was revealed.  However this poached egg was done nicely.

Next was the eggs benedict with ham on Turkish bread, the ham was fresh and bread was toasted, however the hollandaise sauce was only passable.  The biggest disappointment was the poached egg, it was a little overcooked for my liking, there was no runny yolk and almost like a boiled egg.

Uncle Albert cafe is situated in a prime spot, the menu gave us the homely feel, but the quality of the food was just not up there compared to other cafes on the parade.
