I walked past this restaurant on Wright Street, didn't even know it existed. The entrance of the restaurant looked very welcoming. The restaurant had been opened for two weeks apparently. One open area and I could see all the tables and chairs, mainly all white in colour. As I walked in, I also noticed there were two function rooms on the right and a feature wall right behind where we were sitting. The owner must have spent a bit decorating this restaurant.
The water that were poured for us tasted foul. The cups had not been rinsed properly, and all we could taste was the detergent, and the smell of bleach. I wanted to drink something else instead. We were not offered the wine list, therefore had to ask for one. When the wine arrived at our table, the waiter just left the bottle there and didn't help us pour, same with the bottle of sparkling water. I wasn't sure if he was new or not.
There was seafood on the menu. In fact it was one third of the menu but we couldn't order any of them. We were told we had to pre order one day before. This made me think, do they just cook everything a day before and then heat it up on the day? That's a little ridiculous.
We were offered some complimentary TASTE stew beef. Yes it was quite tasty, just not tender enough.
The next dish was very disappointing. First of all, the presentation of this dish was a little shocking. Tiniest prawns with canned fruit, or should I just say canned pineapple and perhaps a few pieces of peach? I think the fruits may have been off as well. The basket itself was not crunchy at all, it was hard and chewy. When I lifted the basket off the plate, it was full of oil. Not a happy gen!
The beef noodles were okay, it was more like beef brisket to me. However there was no sauce to it, more like a dried noodle bowl.
Next was like a noodle salad, minced meat, but where was the soybean paste? Right at the bottom of the bowl? Again not enough sauce.
The plate of vegetables had got to be one of the smallest plate I have ever had. Literally four mushrooms, and two donuts sliced in half.
The chicken in the pot was way over cooked, not sure if it had been cooked previously and heated up. There were a few bones in them, and drenched in oil. We couldn't finish it. There were no plates for us to put the bones on, so we had to use up our only serviettes to sit the bones.
Now I dislike giving negative feedback if I think they have room for improvement, but this restaurant really disappointed me. Although the restaurant has been decorated nicely, the food just didn't stand out. Chinatown what happened? I was excited when I saw this restaurant, but walked out feeling disappointed. Sadly I don't think I will be back.
