This restaurant has been around for as long as Crown hotel has been there. Although it wasn't busy every time we dined there, it is always better to make a booking beforehand. This restaurant is located within the hotel on the lower ground, with clear glass over looking Hindmarsh square. The chairs are wide and comfortable.
A few different types of bread were presented to us on a block, it reminded me of one of those Himalayan salt blocks for Japanese cooking.
Mixed grill was very fresh!
The chef's selection of mixed grill for the night was lamb and beef. The meats were very juicy and tender. Chicken liver was also on the menu for mixed grill, but it certainly was not my favourite. We asked if we could have no chicken liver, so the chef gave us more of the meat instead. There was also sausage, served with some chips and salad. The red wine juice was poured over the meat which made the dish complete. I polished off the plate.
I always love seafood so the casserole caught my eyes as I was reading the menu. The presentation looked great. However I was a little bit disappointed with the taste. The fish, prawns, scallops, calamari and mussels had not much taste to them. Olives were nice, as they were preserved so of course they would be salty. I took a sip of the broth, it was quite tasty. However after a few spoonfuls, it got a little salty. I guess the olives were already salty, there was no need to add extra salt to the soup. To me that wasn't a perfect dish.
The name pretty much says it all, except it was served with mini doughnuts. The dessert was very simple, one layer at the bottom and then cracked parfait on top. It was pleasant to eat. We liked the atmosphere and have enjoyed dining there.
