I went to one of the many cafes in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago, near the beachfront. The furniture was not very inspiring, but the view was stunning. There were people running along side the beach, walking the dogs or simply chatting away. It was very busy when we went but we were lucky enough to have a table outside. We were there for breakfast.
Freshly squeezed juices
There were a few juices that we could choose from, watermelon breakfast, thirst quencher, but decided to have the immunity juice which consisted of watermelon, orange and strawberries. That was very refreshing.
Followed by a cappuccino, I was looking for some groovy coffee art from this cafe, but it was pretty ordinary. The coffee was nice though.
Food menu was modern Australian with some French dishes on the menu. What I ordered was the highlight of my breakfast. It was the Huevos Rancheros – Chorizo sausage, melted gruyere, spicy cassoulet, truss cherry tomatoes, poached eggs and toasted chilli sourdough. It not only looked amazing, but tasted awesome. However, I would have liked to see more of the truss tomatoes in the dish. The crumbed corn and zucchini fritters were also very tasty, worked well with the smoke salmon, avocado and the poached egg. I love mushrooms, so I also tried the mushroom omelette. The omelette was pretty fluffy with enoki, oyster, shitake and shimeji mushrooms, white truffle oil, spring onions, matched well with the chilli soy dressing.
The food was reasonably priced given that it was near the beachfront. I am always on a look out for different breakfasts and this cafe certainly left footprints in my heart.
