Daisyum's visit to the Gold Coast!

Daisyum's visit to the Gold Coast!

If you want to escape to somewhere warmer in winter, then I suggest a weekend away in the beautiful Gold Coast.  It is just over 2 hours flight direct from Adelaide.

There are so many things to do in GC, and definitely many restaurants to dine at.  I was lucky that I went to a few which I am going to share with you all.

Nutrition Republic

Nutrition Republic

A lot of health conscious cafes are opening up.  Don't get me wrong, I think it is a brilliant idea.  Nutrition Republic is located on King William Road, and sells organic food and coffee.  On weekends it is packed with people in their sports gear.  Everything just looks so fresh and healthy.  It ranges from granola with coconut milk to vege slices and salads to desserts like chia seeds pudding and cheesecakes.

Rumi Palace

Rumi Palace

Rumi Palace is on the right side as you enter into the cinema complex on the Parade, you cannot miss it as there are beautiful hanging lights, and the textile patterns on the walls.  It is a restaurant which offers Afghan and Persian food.  There is nothing like this on The Parade.  I think this restaurant will be one that we will visit often before heading to the movies.  I liked expanding my culinary horizons.

Paleo Cafe

Paleo Cafe

I stumbled upon this cafe as I was driving down King William Road.  The orange in colour caught my eyes.  It is an open area with tables and orange chairs.  There is also seating upstairs.  Near the side entrance is a little stall if you wish to buy Paleo books and products.

Everyone talks about a Paleo diet, the so called caveman diet.  Paleo cafe is a chain whereby they have the philosophy to serve fresh, nutritious food and drinks to your table.  The menu consists of many plant based foods, free range eggs, local produce, lean proteins and a lot of fresh fruit, nuts.  The good thing is that everything served is 100% gluten free.  The food is not new to us, but in the past few years they have become extra popular as people are being more health conscious.

Botanic Gardens Restaurant - Festival of Food Adelaide 2015

It is always nice to walk around Adelaide's beautiful Botanic Gardens.  I slowly made my way to the restaurant located by the lake.  We arrived at midday and there were quite a few patrons already.

There was definitely a lot more people dining at the Botanic Gardens Restaurant this time.  A lot of them were businessmen and a lot of them were not dining from the Festival of Food menu.  It was good to see that the food still arrived in a timely manner despite how busy it was.

The Playford Restaurant - Festival of Food Adelaide 2015

The Playford Restaurant - Festival of Food Adelaide 2015

The Playford Restaurant has always been one of my top listed restaurants.  Just before I went on holidays, I decided to dine here again.  I have forgotten to mention in my last post, this year you no longer need to hang out by your letter box waiting for the special piece of paper, the Festival of Food voucher.  There is an app which can be downloaded onto your smart phone and it works just the same.  When you arrive at the restaurant hand your device to a friendly staff member and they will enter a code and your stamp is redeemed from that restaurant.  A very clever idea.

Kingdom Chinese Restaurant

Kingdom Chinese Restaurant

I remembered this restaurant being called Neptune Palace, but it has had a name change for a while now.  The staff that approached us were very friendly.  We attended to dinner on a Friday night and being market late night shopping, you could imagine how busy it was.  Make sure you allow plenty of time for parking and make a booking to avoid any disappointment.  Now straight to the food, typical cantonese food.  This is not the first time we dined at this restaurant, it seemed that we would order something different every time.
